Brageot Moves up to 4th in the World Championship

Indy race itself didn’t disappoint, it turned out to be the show stopper it had promised with home race hero Mike Goulian claiming the win, with Canada’s Pete McLeod runner up followed by Nicolas Ivanoff cruising into third. For Brageot it wasn’t the result that the team had planned, but 9th position and 2 points means he moves ahead into 4th place in the Championship with one race remaining.

Although Brageot flew a clean flight in the Round of 14, it was not enough to keep fellow Frenchman Nicolas Ivanoff from achieving a startlingly fast time and pushing him out and into 9th position.

Mikael Brageot of France returns from his flight during the finals at the seventh round of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis, Indiana, United States on October 7, 2018.

Brageot comments: “We have a great feeling within the team, everything has come together this year better than I could have hoped for. The aircraft has had many small modifications and it is a competitive machine for sure, we just need to refine the engine set up process, which could have been todays downfall. All in all I am happy and looking forward to the final Race in Fort Worth – a track I’m very comfortable in and where I have great memories of winning the Challenger Cup twice.”

With one race to go, Goulian now sits top of the standings with 70 points. Martin Sonka drops to second, just five points behind and Matt Hall has dropped to third just seven points off the top. This means the World Championship will go down to the final round in Fort Worth next month.
